The Best Places to Wakeboard in Maine
Considering the sheer amount of beautiful landscapes and picturesque waterways, it’s no wonder that people call Maine “Vacationland.” Our many lakes and rivers provide ample opportunities for marine enthusiasts of all types, and watersports participants like wakeboarders are no exception.
Looking for a new place to take your wake boat this summer? Here are some of Maine’s best wakeboarding spots to give you some ideas.
Trickey Pond (Naples, ME)
Just south of our city, you can find this small pond that’s adjacent to the much larger Sebago Lake. Trickey Pond isn’t all that big at only 311 acres, but its lack of pollution means that the water’s clarity is a huge draw for tourists, as you can see right to the bottom in many places. You can access Trickey Pond at either its north or south end, and it’s an incredibly popular place for wakeboarding and other watersports.
Moosehead Lake (Beaver Cove, ME)
Deep in the Maine Highlands, you’ll find our state’s largest coldwater lake: Moosehead Lake. This lake is the source of the Kennebec River and it’s nestled in the Longfellow Mountains. With almost 120 square miles of gorgeous blue water, you won’t run out of space for wakeboarding when you launch your boat here! The lake is a very popular destination for water recreation of all types. You can find boat launches in the towns of Rockwood, Greenville, and Seboomook.
Sebago Lake State Park (Naples, ME)
There’s an excellent lake for all sorts of watersports, including wakeboarding, right in our backyard! Sebago Lake State Park offers you access to the water with boat launches. This deep lake is our state’s second-largest lake and it’s a great place to go waterboarding.
To the north, you’ll find Long Lake, which is connected to Sebago Lake by a few narrow channels. Long Lake tends to have much calmer conditions all the time, so it’s another ideal place for avid wakeboarders to take their boats.
Acadia National Park (Mt. Desert, ME)
Just south of Bangor, on the southern coast, you’ll find this gorgeous park on portions of the Schoodic Peninsula, Mt. Desert Island, and a number of smaller islands. Many of the lakes and ponds here permit boating and have launching areas, but you’ll need to be mindful of the type of boat you use, as not all watercraft are permitted in all areas.
