Cleaning Up Mildew On Your Boat
Sometimes, despite your best efforts, your boat may end up with some mildew and mold build-up on it. The vinyl seats are particularly vulnerable to this malady, which happens because of the extreme amounts of humidity that boats are regularly exposed to. However, you probably don’t want your passenger sitting on seats that smell bad and look bad, so you need to find a way to clean your vinyl. Here are the steps we recommend you try.
Get Supplies
You’ll need a few supplies to help you get your boat clean:
- CLR spray cleaner
- Soft-bristle scrubbing brush
- Sponges
- Microfiber cloths
- Clean water
- Vinyl sealant
- Paper towels
- Magic Erasers
Spray & Scrub
Liberally spray some CLR onto the seats and allow it to spread into every crevice. Let the liquid soak for a few minutes and then apply your soft-bristle brush to the stains for scrubbing. Avoid scrubbing too hard so that you don’t scuff the vinyl.
Wipe & Rinse
Use microfiber cloths or a damp sponge to wipe up the debris you’ve removed. You may need to repeat the spraying and scrubbing processes. A Magic Eraser may help to remove more stubborn stains.
Seal Your Vinyl
A spray-on vinyl sealant with a UV protectant is a great additional step to take once your vinyl is clean. A thorough coating of this type of sealer will give your vinyl a shiny finish that also repels mildew.
